How To Dress Up Boyfriend Jeans (Yet Remain Casual)

How To Dress Up Boyfriend Jeans (Yet Remain Casual)

Sometimes boyfriend jeans are the best solution for a day at home, rather than staying in your pyjamas or sweats all day.

They’re more comfortable than skinny jeans (especially if I’m doing things sitting down), yet I still feel as if I need to dress them up just a little bit. I tend to get one or two callers at home during the day (we live right in the town centre and I get a lot of deliveries), so having something I can throw on in the morning that’s also respectable for a knock at the door is important.

All boyfriend jeans need, for example, are a slightly smarter top, a leopard print belt (also helps to keep them up – why do mine always become so big on the waist?!) and some funky sandals. Yes – I pranced about the house in these ones from Debenhams all day, simply because I felt like it. And when your hair is unwashed, matted and generally pretty rank, do what I do: tie it into a side ponytail, backcomb the hell out of it, pin it all up into a messy bun and plonk a hat on your head.

Voilà – comfy, front-door presentable, and even worthy of a photoshoot. What’s your go-to outfit at home to make sure you’re prepared for visitors? And do you toy with boyfriend jeans at any time to make a change from skinnies…?!

Happy Tuesday everyone xo

Your looks at spot on-so stylish! I was just looking at your summer posts and they are perfect on you. I've voted and you are a style inspiration (you should win for that midriff alone! ;).

Oh… good. Funnily enough very ladylike, very smart. Probably because of the top.
Love this simple top. And of course, a belt like that, lifts an outfit and the sandals are a find. I saw them in a recent post and like them a lot.

I love this look – I think it is the least colorful I've ever seen on you and its totally gorgeous! I am guilty of living in sweats, leggings, and really anything with an elastic waist when I am at home. Kudos to you for looking fabulous even when slubbing around the house! πŸ™‚

They are a hard style to get right, Rachel – I agree. To be honest these ones really are too big for me but the belt kinda sorts that out…! Thank you xx

I totally agree that for days around the house, boyfriend jeans are better than skinnies (not so comfy, unless you never eat) or sweats (kind of depressing). I like to pair mine with a basic white tee and dress the whole thing up with lightweight layered necklaces and maybe a bracelet or two.

    • 22 August 2013 / 12:07 pm

Hmm I like the sound of the necklaces and the white tee, Amy!! And yes – sweats are depressing, I agree xx

I love these boyfriend jeans on you! If I had a pair, I'd always want to dress them up to. I've never bought a pair of boyfriend jeans because I feel like they're too boxy and not cute on me, but I really want to try a pair. What do you think? Get maybe a more fitted kind of boyfriend jean?

    Have a great day!

I love boyfriend jeans! I have the same problem with the waist getting loose throughout the day. Belting them really does help. You look so put-together! And hats ARE fantastic for dirty hair days. πŸ™‚
