Preppy Neutrals With Blue

Yep, I think I've worked out how to describe my style... "Preppy with an Edge". Would that be fair...? Maybe not always preppy (I certainly wasn't on Wednesday of last week), but I've noticed I do lean a lot towards blazers, gingham and loafers. So that's myself put firmly in a box, for this week at least ;)

And finally there was a break in the wind and rain today to take outfit pictures - the weather has been horrendous in the UK this month (and this weekend was the worst)! At work today we were looking out the window marvelling at a little bit of blue sky... before it disappeared again as quickly as it appeared. I'm so envious of bloggers in other parts of the world saying how hot their weather is already... please, please, please, send some warmth our way!!!

Happy Monday everyone!

Candy coloured and rainproof

There's nothing like a few saccharin-sweet colours to brighten up a rainy day. My sweater was cheap as chips from Tesco - I just can't help myself in supermarkets' clothing sections...! I love the feeling of coming out with bargain-priced, new things for my wardrobe when I only popped in for bananas and some milk :)

As we're still having the wettest official drought on record in the UK (to the rain: please, enough already!), a raincoat is a permanent fixture at the moment... I call this one my "New York jacket". I bought it for our honeymoon three years ago in NYC (it rained then, too) and got to wear it a lot. I love all the colours of the checks, especially how the brownish colour goes with my hair. In fact now I come to think of it, every item I'm wearing (with the exception of the new sweater and a couple of bits of jewellery) is at least three years old. Pretty good wardrobe recycling, eh?

Happy Friday and HAPPY WEEKEND, lovely readers!

P.S. Saw the new Avengers movie last night... exciting doesn't even cover it. It was BEYOND amazing - we're thinking of going again next weekend, and we never make a habit of seeing anything at the cinema twice. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee [excited squeal]

Stumbling upon the pyjamas trend

The pyjamas trend was not one I ever had any intention of embracing. I have seen some lovely takes on it (like Keiko Lynn's or this one on my Pinterest board for example), but it was a noooo, daytime PJs: not for me, thank you.

So what did I do? I got a craving to wear my baggy floral pants - another item out of winter hibernation - and a light top that I could layer under my long, wear-it-10-ways cardigan (it's still cold and rainy here). The most suitable top to hand (that was ironed) was my thrifted "old lady blouse", and I thought the blue floral would work well with the purple: an outfit warm enough to wrap around me yet having enough layers to peel off if the sun decided to make an appearance.

But once dressed and rushing to leave for work, I looked in the mirror and thought OMG... I'm wearing pyjamas. If I changed I'd be late - so I kept it on and thought I'd just wrap the cardigan around me and remove the blouse. Ironically, the office was really warm for a change so the blouse stayed on and the cardigan didn't. You know what? I really loved it in the end. It may not be the most figure-flattering outfit, but hey! it's colourful, comfy, and gives me a reason to wear my favourite pair of heels. That kind of dressing makes me happy - I guess that's what it's all about ;)

I hope you're all having a great week... I'm quite chipper because we're going to the cinema tomorrow to see some little movie called "Avengers Assemble" or something [squeeeeeals with excitement]!!!

The white blazer's back in town

My white blazer came out of hibernation for a chilly (but bright) spring day... oh how I've missed you, dear white beauty! A white blazer really sums up summer dressing for me, and I felt summery enough to pair it with a marl grey top and the palest yellow trousers (also released from storage). This was my outfit for shopping and a spot of lunch in town (Wagamama's seafood ramen, cue Homer Simpson-style "mmmm"-ing) and it was just right for warmth and comfort - in fact I probably had a few too many layers on, it got quite warm in the sun on Saturday.

You can just see the extra long, pointy collars of my vintage 70s shirt peeking out (seen here in February in its full picturesque glory). As we were walking around, the wind was catching them and they kept poking my chin, so I must have looked a right numpty with collars poking me in the face and Mr. Summers and I giggling about it. And has anyone noticed the reflection in my sunglasses? You can see the photographer (Mr. S again) in the left lens, and our little white car in the right one... it is small anyway but the glasses make it look like a miniature toy car ;)

Happy Monday everyone (have a great week)!

Pink gingham and pearls

For a sweater that I ummed and aahed over whether to keep or send back [to ASOS] last year, I have worn it a LOT since I bought it.

For some reason it just works with everything - I wore it with hot pink in November and it proved very popular... so I paired it with pink again, plus my favourite statement necklace and boyfriend jeans: this is my favourite outfit so far with this sweater I think :)

Plus for those of you who've been commenting on my manicures lately (thank you!) - I'm sorry but I like to give my nails a rest now and then... they'll be back though, don't worry!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, lovely people!
