Spots and stripes and gingham

This thrifted gingham shirt is fast becoming a staple in my wardrobe... this is the third time I've worn it on the blog. What I find funny is that I've now realised it's definitely a man's shirt (due to the side the buttons are on), even though it was being sold in the women's section. I thought it was somewhat on the large side, though that hasn't bothered me!

I really went all out on the pattern mixing here: I'm only missing florals and some sort of ikat or geometric print. (Maybe that would be just a little too much, even for me ;) If anyone is hesitant about mixing patterns but wants to, then my advice would be to ensure you have a colour theme running through them (although I don't "do" rules, I do think mixed patterns are easier on the eye if you do this)! Here, two out of the colours red, white, blue and black appear in each pattern.

An unexpected pop of dayglo bright from my neon satchel takes this outfit from a little preppy (I don't want to say mumsy) to mildly in-your-face. Er, if that isn't a contradiction in terms??

Yay it's the weekend so enjoy it, lovely readers!

Crisp cerulean blue workwear

A few nice simple pics this time after the photo fest that was my last post...!

We're still having this mini heatwave at the moment, but I feel like I've missed out on the transitional period where light jackets and blazers take over from big wool coats - don't get me wrong though, I LOVE this warm weather! However I'm still taking a jacket to work for the chilly mornings and evenings; although I hardly wore this jacket during the day, I preferred this look with the jacket on as a neutral contrast to the gingham shirt and bright blue jeans.

Happy Wednesday, lovely readers!

English Riviera style

It seems it's summer, not just spring, in Blighty... the temperatures we're having are unheard of for March (22°C!). And what do the Brits do when there's the slightest glimmer of sunshine? They heard for the beach, of course: none of us are geographically any more than 70 miles from the coast so that's where we go for ice cream, dirty beaches* and rickety old piers. Mr. Summers and I had an impromptu day in Torquay, a.k.a. The English Riviera: the photo opportunities were endless, hence the huge number of pictures...!

*I'm joking... there are lots of lovely beaches of course

The coast is nearly always a little chilly, so I dressed for lots of walking and a cool breeze, making sure I brought a touch of warm colour in homage to the sun. And I tend to pile on more jewellery in warm weather - there's something about the jangling of arm candy that makes me feel more summery for some reason ;)

I've included a couple of photos taken just inland on the (country) walk back from the seafront to the car... couldn't resist posing by the gamekeeper's lodge and a little country cottage. I do apologise for how tired I look in these last two photos - we'd had a long day and I was desperate to get home for a cuppa ;)

And saving the best till last: I think this (unposed) photo of me on the pier is my favourite ever on my blog... normally I'm the unoffical art director and Mr. Summers the photographer (I didn't get that photography degree in order to keep quiet whilst having my picture taken!). However, this is all his own work; I was sitting enjoying the sun when he asked me to turn around and face the camera... what a beautiful photo Y

It seems that a lot of places [countries] are having unseasonally mild spring temperatures from what I read on other blogs. Or are you in the southern hemisphere and having a long autumn maybe....?

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend, here's wishing you all a great week!

Russian doll with a twist

I don't know what the twist is exactly, but this is quite an old but much loved dress that always makes me feel like I'm one of those Russian Babushka dolls. And you know what is amazing: until I saw these photos I'd never noticed that there was a large yellow flower on the front of the dress... I thought it had the spots and geometric patterns all over it?!!

This outfit seemed like a good antedote to all the masculine chic looks I've been wearing recently; my legs need to remember what freedom feels like now and then (I still kept them clad in tights though). With all the warm weather that's creeping up on us they might even find out what air feels like before long... not without a spray tan first however: things that white might blind you lovely people ;)

Minty birds and a pop of red

So I'm wearing another two items I'd not thought of pairing before - the bird print blouse last seen here and the mint coloured top with bows on, last seen here. I now think they were designed to be worn together perhaps...? Choosing the main part of this outfit was easy - shades of blue and mint - but I had a dilemma when it came to what shoes to wear. So thank you to my niece Rosie: she said the red booties and she was absolutely right. It needed a pop of colour and I do love pale blue with red.

The weather today has really warmed up in Blighty so I might be getting the summer wardrobe out from storage a little early this year; normally I don't reach for it till the end of April at the earliest!

Do you guys keep clothes for winter/summer stored away? My wardrobe is currently heaving with thick winter stuff so I do it for practical storage reasons as well as the other reason, you know, the one where, er, they tell you to do that. You know, they.

Enjoy the rest of the week and have a great weekend folks!!!

Pretty pastels plus features, elsewhere

Yep - it's those wedding trousers again! I'm trying to get as much wear out of them before it's too warm for lined, wool trousers... I always miss them over the summer. And I'm really rather loving pastels right now: who'd have thought when I wore them to death as a teenager in the 80s?!

The scarf I've had for a while and now realised that it will go perfectly with just about any pastels that I wear, like mint loafers for example - I'm on a one-woman loafers crusade at the moment. Finally - my new fave nail polish colour is pastel blue, though I must find the time to do something more interesting than just one colour on all nails!

I'm really pleased to share two great features about NDAL:

Imogen at Inside Out Style for her weekly "Stylish Thoughts": I'm so chuffed to have been asked - if you have a minute do check out my interview!

Plus the very sweet Kristen of The Clothing Menu has featured an outfit of mine (with another to follow later today) - she focuses on what clothes to wear to work:

Thank you guys, so much!!

Happy Wednesday folks xoxo

Mustard polkadots, lemon denim and tangerine patent

I'm definitely feeling the love for spring in this outfit with florals, polkadots and pastels - I don't think I could be more spring-like if I covered myself in magnolia flowers and daffodils. In between the grey, cloudy days we are having some gorgeous, sunny and slightly-warmer-than average weather, which just makes me want to reach for the florals every time...!

I'd not thought to team this thrifted floral shirt with my polkadot blazer before (even though I've had both since last summer), and as I'm a pattern-mixing fan I'm seriously loving this new combo. Plus this is my first foray into pastels; these boyfriend jeans were super cheap from ASOS, and while I was browsing the sale section I found these loafers too: Patent? Tangerine? On sale? Add to basket!

Wishing you all a very happy week, hope your weekends were great :)))
