I really, really loved this monochromatic outfit – simple as that…! I wore this to a surprise birthday party where I had no idea what sort of venue we were going to or what the dress code was… I read somewhere that if unsure, you should ALWAYS overdress rather than under dress – every time. Whoever said that was right, thank you πŸ™‚

To have an evening in the UK where it is warm enough to go out wearing just one light layer on your top half is nothing short of a treat; no trying to decide what jacket or cardigan to put on over the top. Although I try to resist overkill on the pink front as much as possible (people I know seem to think I want pink everything for some reason), I think coral shades are a preferable alternative. I’d not thought of pairing this cutaway top (bought last summer) with this skirt (bought last winter) before – not until August’s Everybody Everywhere theme was monochromatic. Blue would have been too easy, green not bright enough and white a cop out (for me I mean). So I thought pink? purple? red? – but in the end coral was number one choice. It’s such a perfect colour for the summer, don’t you think…?

So pretty, yet still modern. Love the shoes as well. I would not have come up with the idea to combine this top with this skirt and it works so well.
Because of you I have visited Asos a couple of times but apparently I do not have "the eye", as I never find something I like. Yet you buy all these nice things there.

Great coral outfit – and incredible bag! I'm having a look at the links right away!

Where I live people always seem to be super casual so I'm often overdressed. I used to dress like everyone else (well nearly!) but Trinny and Susannah says that hourglass shapes should up the ante – with my limited English skills I've interpreted that as "always overdress"!

coral is so good on you! and an all over coral outfit looks fab! I thought you may have been in the same boat as me ("ebew..what only 1 colour??!!") but as always you totally pull it all together so well!xx

Catherine, we show that beautiful outfit today! I love the monochrome and color of this dress is great. The jewelry is spectacular, beautiful. The shoes, although they are little, they seem precious. You are very good.

Yes, coral really "does it" for you. How pretty! Love the bangles and multiple bracelets. I have to agree with you that being overdressed is always the way to go (in my world). If everyone else is slobbing it, doesn't bother me in the least. I know that I like what I'm wearing and will feel good in it. If it makes the ultra-casuals look sloppy, well, so be it!

Very pretty. Your top isn't one that I would have considered before seeing it here. It's sexy without being overtly revealing.

    Love your accessorizing too.

You are completely right – always over dress rather than underdress when going to an event. I don't think I could pull of head to toe coral but you do fabulously!

  21. 13 August 2012 / 3:51 pm

Haha Catherine. I think most style books will say that you need to keep it simple and underdress when in doubt. You should really find out where you read the opposite. I'm curious! In any case, I think it's good that you did not. And why not stand out? You look amazing in this ensemble. Love it!

It was one of those things that I read from time to time, rather than just one place, Sylvia… What I meant was that I had no idea whether to turn up in jeans and a nice top, or full on party dress. I'm glad I went for the dressier option, as one of the girls who went in jeans and sparkly top kept despairing that she felt underdressed – it didn't really matter to us, but it was how she ended up feeling! I think the "advice " I've read means don't go casual if unsure, as long as you're confident being dressed up! Good to read all points of view – thanks hun! C x
