An Edwardian flavour

So I’ve done it again: I’ve put together an outfit that, when I look at the photos, makes me think of a specific style/decade/influence/celebrity.

I really don’t mean to do it, and maybe you wouldn’t agree with me each time, but that’s okay! πŸ˜‰

Today it’s the turn of the 1910s… for me it’s about the combination of a puffy leg-of-mutton sleeve (Mum: what are they called again?), a shirt collar and my hair piled up on my head. Oh and a long full silhouette created by wearing wide-leg trousers (like their long straight skirts). Think Titanic day-wear (like this sort of thing), if you will.

I promise I don’t do this intentionally, but it has been rather timely: last week I participated in a few of the Winter Edition Challenges at Freckles in April [great link ups!] – so due to the 1910s thing I’ve got going on I thought I’d try and take up the challenges directly and do as many as I can. So the first this week is Decades/Regions: what’s the betting I’m the only 1910s link up…? πŸ˜‰

Have a great week everyone!

P.S. The beautiful Saturn necklace was a gift from my parents for Christmas… perfect as the planet Saturn is my favourite thing we’ve seen in our telescope since we bought it last year πŸ™‚

Fun outfit–I love the colors. I can't seem to pull off tones from the cool end of the color spectrum. I'm not going to take the bet, but there just might be someone else going for 1910s thanks to Downton Abbey. Your outfit definitely has strong '70s elements as well–unexpected combination.

Hi Sarah – as I mentioned to Rose above I've not seen Downton so it never occured to me… thanks for your sweet comment, I appreciate it!! C x

Great pattern mix. I adore the necklace! I'd love to have a telescope, but living in the city, the lights overwhelm them.

How Edwardian! Especially love your hair up, which really suits you. Have you been watching Downton Abbey? (Especially the first series which was set about 1910, just before WW 1) Lots of yummy inspiration for outfits.

Gorgeous Husband and I went to Highclere Castle, (the location for the series) dressed in Edwardian outfits to act as extras for a documentary that was being filmed by an Australian film crew. Apparently, the Aussies love Downton! You can see my "cobbled together" Edwardian outfit on my blog on November 8, 2011.

Hi Rose: so glad you like my 'Edwardian' outfit – I will pop over and look at yours on your blog! I never even thought about Downton… I've never watched it (and I'm a Brit!). Unfortunately I saw a comedy sketch of Downton before I saw the real thing, so it's ruined it for me now as I couldn't possibly take it seriously ;))
